NATIVE DISH / PLATILLO NATIVO: Colombian Paisa Arepas / "Arepas paisas" de Colombia

(Existing English subtitles are from the publisher: NYC Media)

Description (from the original video): "In the 1980s, many Colombians fled their homeland due to the Cold War conflict, drug violence and a lack of opportunity.  As a teenager then, Esneider Arevalo left the Paisa region and join his mom in Jackson Heights, Queens to help her to run her food cart and work in the restaurant business.

Today, Esneider also leads food tours through the diverse immigrant communities of Jackson Heights, Corona, and Elmhurst for the website, Culinary Backstreets, giving visitors a taste of both Latin-American and Asian fare. When they ask for a taste of his native Medellín, he shares with them his family recipe for traditional golden Arepas, made from freshly-ground and soaked cracked hominy corn."
