Emma Doyle: What I learned burning cupcakes / Lo que aprendí quemando pastelillos (TEDxManhattanBeach, 2012)

Emma is a sixth-grader with a special passion. While she enjoys playing the saxophone and painting, her real passion lies in baking and decorating cakes. She has been making cakes since she was nine-years old, and her family and friends' subsequent weight gain bear testament to how tasty her baking is. She has been commissioned to make cakes for special occasions and enjoys rising to the challenge of her special request -- Her "foot in a cast" cake is one such example.

Emma está en el sexto grado y tiene una pasión muy especial. Mientras disfruta tocar el saxofón y la pintura, su verdadera pasión está en la creación y decoración de tortas. Ha hecho tortas desde los 9 años, y las subidas de peso de sus familiares y amigos son prueba de las delicias que crea. Ha recibido encargos para eventos especiales y en estas ocasiones le encanta poner en uso su buena imaginación. Un ejemplo es su torta de "pierna enyesada".

Another beautiful TEDxTalks that I had the opportunity to help create English and Spanish subtitles. It's so timeless -- the idea of food as a connector, of cuisine as a source of identity but also a way of understanding when communities come together for a common goal, despite their differences.

Otra hermosa charla the TEDx que tuve la oportunidad de subtitular al inglés y al español. Es un mensaje que no caduca: la idea de la comida como conector, de la cocina como una fuente de identidad, pero también como un camino al entendimiento cuando las comunidades se juntan para alcanzar una meta en común, a pesar de las diferencias.
